NNU welcomes basketball coach Scott Flemming
A new era in Crusader men’s basketball dawns this fall, led by veteran winner Scott Flemming. Hired in May, Scott takes over for Dave Daniels who retired in April. He brings a 440-273 career collegiate coaching record with him to the Northwest Nazarene sidelines along with two National Coach of the Year awards and a Christian College National Championship.
“I am excited to get back on a college campus, and it is particularly exciting to be at NNU,” said Flemming, who most recently coached the National Men’s Basketball Team of India for three years after spending two years as an assistant coach for the NBA D-League’s Texas Legends.
“I believe God has brought me to this place, in this position, at this time."“I believe God has brought me to this place, in this position, at this time,” added Flemming, who coached at NCAA Division II Nyack College (N.Y.) before spending 20 seasons as head coach and athletic director at his alma mater, Mount Vernon Nazarene University (Ohio). “I have a passion for coaching the game and using this platform to make an eternal difference.
“Although this will be a transition year, our staff is working hard to build a foundation that will lead to success in the future. We want to engage with the Crusader fans and build on the strong basketball tradition at NNU.”
