NNU Board of Trustees Approves Contract Extension for President Joel Pearsall
The Northwest Nazarene University (NNU) Board of Trustees announced Friday, March 6, 2020 that they have unanimously voted to extend the contract for NNU President Joel Pearsall for four more years. The announcement came at the end of the board’s semi-annual meeting that was held March 4-6, 2020 on the NNU campus.
Extensive evaluations were conducted last fall by faculty, staff, students, trustees and other relevant constituencies. Mike Zahare, Chairman of NNU’s Board of Trustees, praised the outstanding leadership and work that Pearsall has provided during his current term.
“In our recent presidential evaluation, all NNU constituency groups enthusiastically affirmed our president’s leadership skills, the positive direction in which he is moving NNU, and the Christ-like manner in which he represents the university both internally and externally,” Zahare stated. “The Board is extremely pleased that President Pearsall has now agreed to serve as NNU’s president for another four-year term.”
Pearsall began his tenure as president in March 2016 and is the university’s 13th president. During his tenure, a new master plan has been adopted to guide the physical development of campus, a new student center (the Conrad Commons) opened in 2019 and plans are currently moving forward for the College of Nursing Expansion: Building the Future of Healthcare initiative to help accommodate the university’s growing nursing program. In a time when private colleges and universities face immense challenges, NNU looks forward to continued growth and a successful future under President Pearsall’s proven leadership.
Pearsall earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting and Business Administration from Northwest Nazarene College in 1980 and his Juris Doctor from Willamette University’s College of Law in 1983. Korea Nazarene University honored him with an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree in Cheonan City, South Korea in 2019.
Pearsall has been married to Nikki (Moritz) for 40 years and they have three children: Trenton (T.J.), Chadwick, and Graydon.
