Honors College Lecture Series presents Fredi Lajvardi
The Northwest Nazarene University Honors College is pleased to present a talk featuring Fredi Lajvardi, an educator who has received numerous awards for his teaching. These accolades include IEEE National Outstanding Educator, the Arizona Department of Education Leadership Award and the City of Phoenix Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award each year from 2005 through 2009.
The event will be held Thursday night, October 15, at 7 p.m. in Wiley Learning Center, Feltar Lecture Hall, on the campus of Northwest Nazarene University. This presentation is free and open to the public.
Mr. Lajvardi's talk, "Improbable to Unstoppable," will chronicle the actions of underprivileged, underfunded high school students in Phoenix, Arizona, and how they became engaged and challenged through his teaching in the field of robotics—so challenged that they defeated the likes of students from MIT three consecutive times at the national underwater robotics competition. The work of these students under Lajvardi's leadership has been reported nationally and internationally and has been featured in the documentary Underwater Dreams and the movie Spare Parts, released in January, 2015, starring George Lopez.
