Encouraged by community
Dual-sport athlete and social work major Taylor VanValey never wanted to come to NNU. Fortunately, God had other plans for her. She gave her life to Christ her senior year of high school and decided to give a Christian university a chance despite reservations. Now she says, “NNU is the second best decision I’ve ever made in my life, aside from choosing to follow God.”
“I told God I was giving NNU a year, and then I was going to transfer,” she said. However, after receiving an offer to play at her dream school, she realized just how much NNU had impacted her. “When the Californina coach called me during my first year at NNU and offered me a scholarship, I didn’t even think about it. I just said ‘no.’ I told him, ‘I think this is where God wants me, and I’m going to listen to Him.’"
“The people I’ve met and the community here are unlike any I have seen or been a part of. I’ve never felt so supported before or encouraged to do what I love.”
“I prayed that God would provide for me here, and that he would really show me that this is where I was meant to be.”
When she received all the scholarships she needed to cover the next year, God’s direction and provision were clear. “The people I’ve met and the community here are unlike any I have seen or been a part of or heard of. I’ve never felt so supported before or encouraged to do what I love. Seeing how God has provided me with these different scholarships just makes me want to be that much more successful. Knowing there are people that believe in me and believe in the education NNU provides is awesome."
“The trials and successes I’ve had here have helped me to believe more in myself and be confident in who I am, what I want to do and the person I want to be.”
